Sample wisely with the Eyedropper tool (Photoshop CS/CS2/CS3/CS4)

The Eyedropper tool is great to use when you want to take a color from one part of an image and use it somewhere else. However, your sample's accuracy is dependant on the option you choose.

When you select the Eyedropper tool, the tool Options bar displays a Sample Size pop-up menu. From here, you can choose a sample average. Photoshop CS users have only 3 options to choose from: Point Sample, 3 by 3 Average, and 5 by 5 Average, while Photoshop CS4 users have seven options, ranging from point sample to 101 by 101 Average.

Whichever option you choose, Photoshop references that amount of pixels around the Eyedropper tool sample, and averages the color reference numbers to give you your new sampled color. So choose your options wisely!
