Here are a few ways to help improve load time:
- For longer web content, it’s best to use a "Read More" link. This minimizes the time to load all texts, photos, or videos per article. On your home page, load only the essentials by snipping the content using a "Read More" link.
- Host your photos to an Image Hosting site (like Photobucket http://www.photobucket.com, Tinypic http://www.tinypic.com, Flickr http://www.flickr.com, or ImagShack http://www.imageshack.us/). Use thumbnail sizes and have the users the option to enlarge the image when needed.
- Use FLVs for videos and host these files to a video hosting site like Youtube http://www.youtube.com. Use smaller screen size in displaying these videos. The larger the screen size, the longer it takes to play this video.
- For HTML, use CSS to avoid unnecessary tags. Also, instead of nested tables use use div tags and don’t forget to simplify your Javascript code..
- Check your website’s file size monthly. Estimate the number of visitors accessing your site and the daily updates that you’ll be adding. If your site requires bigger web space and bandwidth, upgrade your hosting plan to accommodate more site traffic.
