Swap styles in a flash (InDesign)

Styles are a real boon to productivity, and we found yet another reason you should use them in InDesign. Let's say, for example, that you format a considerable amount of text throughout your document with a paragraph style. Then, you realize you applied the wrong style. No problem! In a flash, you can use the Find/Change command to reformat the text with the correct style.

To swap styles using the Find/Change command:

  1. Choose Edit >; Find/Change or press [command]F ([Ctrl]F in Windows) in your InDesign document and click More Options in the Find/Change dialog box to display the Find Format Settings and Change Format Settings panes.
  2. Click Format in the Find Format Settings pane to open the Find Format Settings dialog box.
  3. Choose the style you want to swap for another from either the Character Style or Paragraph Style pop-up menu.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click Format in the Change Format Settings pane.
  6. Choose the replacement style from the Character Style or Paragraph Style pop-up menu.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click Change All to swap the old style for the new.
