Flow text in a perfect spiral (InDesign)

InDesign doesn’t have a tool for drawing spirals, but it does have a cool Type On A Path tool that allows you to type text on paths. So, how do you create cool text effects, Let’s just say, it takes two.

To type text on a spiral path:

  1. Create the spiral in Adobe Illustrator using the Spiral tool.
  2. Drag and drop the object directly into your InDesign document.
  3. Select the Type On A Path tool from the Toolbox, and position the pointer on the spiral path. When a plus sign (+) displays next to the pointer, click anywhere on the path.
  4. Type your text along the spiral path.
  5. Highlight the text and format it as usual.
You can use the Type On A Path options (in the Type menu) to enhance the text effect further, as well as reverse the direction in which the text flows.
