Save a tree: Print two pages on one sheet of paper (Excel 2003/2007/2010)

Sometimes your Excel worksheets don’t take up an entire sheet of paper. And if your workbook contains 10 worksheets that you want to print, all taking up only half a sheet of paper, that’s a lot of wasted space. Duplex (double-sided) printing will help, but not everyone’s printer has duplexing capabilities.

Instead, you can change your Print options to print two — or more — pages on one sheet of paper. Just follow these steps:

  1. Launch Excel and open the workbook that you want to print.
  2. Choose File | Page Setup from the menu bar to open the Page Setup dialog box.
  3. Click on the Sheet tab and then click the Options button. The Document Properties dialog box for your default printer displays.
  4. On the Layout tab, choose 2 from the Pages Per Sheet dropdown list.
  5. Click OK twice to dismiss the dialog boxes and return to your workbook.
Now, when you print your workbook, you’ll see two pages on each sheet of paper. Note that your print preview won’t reflect this change because the setting is actually a printer setting and not an Excel option. Also, depending on your printer capabilities, you might have the option of printing more than two pages on one sheet. Keep in mind that this trick prints your pages as is, complete with headers and footers. So you’ll have two headers and footers on your printed page if you print two pages per sheet.

Adapt for Excel 2007/2010
To access the Print Setup dialog box in Excel 2007/2010, go to the Page Layout tab. In the Page Setup group, click on the icon in the lower-right corner of the group. You’ll see the Print Setup dialog box, where you can access your printer’s options.
