Place guides in precise locations with this trick (CS2/CS3/CS4/CS5)

Guides are a great resource when you need to position design elements in your Photoshop documents. But it’s sometimes tricky placing the guides exactly where you want them.

To position guides in precise locations, don’t click and drag, do it by the numbers. Simply choose File > New Guide to display the New Guide dialog box. Select either the Horizontal or Vertical orientation option, and then enter the guide position. (The guide position is based on the ruler increments you have set in your current document.) Click OK and Photoshop adds a guide exactly where you want it.

If you want to position the guide in a location based on percentage instead of ruler increments, enter a value followed by the percent sign in the Position text box. For example, if you want a horizontal guide halfway down your image, choose the Horizontal option and enter 50% in the Position text box.
