Apply a fill color and preserve transparency (Photoshop CS/CS2/CS3/CS4)

When filling an object with color, you can select the object and then choose Edit > Fill, or you can accomplish this task more quickly with keyboard shortcuts. Here are two shortcuts that will enablë you to fill any object or layer with the color of your choice.

First, you’ll need to set the foreground or background color to the color you desire. Then, with the object or layer selected:
  • Press [shift][option][delete]([Shift][Alt][Backspace] in Windows) and Photoshop fills the object with the foreground color.
  • Press [shift][delete] ([Ctrl][Shift][Backspace] in Windows) and Photoshop fills the object with the background color.
Note: These keyboard shortcuts only fill image areas that contain pixels; the transparent areas remain unaffected.
