Turn negative keywords into positive search results

It’s possible that having your site found in the wrong kind of search is just as bad as having it not found at all. If you use pay-per-click (PPC) advertising services, using negative keywords can help ensure that your site is more likely to show up in searches that are relevant to your content.

Negative keywords work by telling search engines to exclude keywords that don’t match your business or audience. You can build a list of negative keywords the same way that you would build a list of usable keywords, and implement them according to your PPC advertiser’s guidelines.

Negative keywords won’t filter out combinations of the searched words, however. For instance, “computer mouse” would filter your ad out of a search query for “computer” and “mouse” but not from variations of those terms.

You’ll also want to be sure not to overuse this practice- search queries are as diverse as the people performing them and you don’t want to be left out of a potentially relevant search.
